we're oot of camp...

Camp is now done!:(

We are now safe and happy in Belfast International hostel. Updating the blog, showering and then heading out for our sparkly top dinner.

Today has already seen a leftover breakfast, striking camp, and us all enjoying the titanic experience!

Off to get myself a shower now... A week at camp... Say no more...

thursday to wednesday...

Well, what a few days it has been...

Thursday night was a Glasgow adventure with delicious home made pizza- dough and all - a few bedding rolls to be re-made, and the minibus to be packed. It was actually a huge success - the bus was much larger than we feared it might not be, and we got all our stuff in with a seat to spare! Ideal!

I fear there was not a lot of sleep had by the girls Thursday night with excitement levels maxed out and all the girls bunking in together. All the same they all got up and early and were out and ready to go on time - they are the best of the best that girl guiding Scotland have to offer after all, so you know they'll probably be good.

Travel down to the ferry went plenty smooth Friday and the ferry crossing was smooth. There was a small blip when the minibus would not lock, but it appeared that that would be more to do with a dodgy back door not closing properly than anything else...

We arrived at Lorne safe and sound, and it is beautiful! We got upgraded to the Coach House from the rangers cottage, mainly due to the lack of electricity in the rangers cottage, but I say it's because we are just so good! The rooms were all en-suite singles and twins so there was many a bathroom for the last pre-camp shower and beautification. We had a lovely - and spicy dinner - of stuffed peppers - aren't we posh! and a good play on the obstacle course and play park - leaders and all!

Saturday was another relaxed day with a morning of more playing on the obstacle course, cleaning the house, and then getting into the minibus to head to nijam!!!!!!!!!!

We were only going 10minutes down the road to here in Crawfordsburn country park. The site is beautiful, green and lush! Our host group here in the county Fermanagh subcamp had very kindly put up our tents for us, as well as our fellow visitors from Buckinghamshire - the bucks bubbles. Our girls (and the leaders) are all in lightweight tents it turns out, both big and small, and although a bit tight, we all fit in - just! We settled into subcamp life Saturday, had many a wander round and tasty tea - sausage, mash and beans! Woop! Then we enjoyed the opening ceremony - terrible puns here there and everywhere - but great all the same. The long walk was a big trip round the park and down to the beach, no paddling allowed sadly, but it was very nice to stretch the legs although the final hill into site is a bit of a steep one! We had a 'neighborhood night in' after we got back getting to know the others in our subcamp. We are lucky to be right next to the arena and so there's always plenty of people coming by to say hello to, and even luckier we're not too far to the loos either which is always helpful!

There was a bit of rain Saturday, when I say a bit, I mean 20 minutes of downpour, but it was well handled, as our hosts have many shelters and places for us to hide!

This morning (Sunday) was Mass and Guides and scouts own. Jessica and Ellie both did readings in front of the whole camp and we could not be prouder! The girls are currently setting up for this afternoon's charity fair and taking great pride in getting it all sorted. We had luggage constraints so may not be able to compete with a lot of what people are doing, but they are certainly going to try!

Monday morning consisted of an early rise at 7 for breakfast at 8, as expected the girls didn't take this too lightly, but nothing a jar of Nutella couldn't cure.  Water bottles were filled, lunch was packed, which meant we could head to the first activity of the week, Active Zone.  The bucks bubbles and the haggis hunter's got divided into several groups where we would then rotate and participate in various activities.  Activities included rock climbing, caving, archery, zip wire, and mountain skateboarding, all of which were on site.  The fun we had came at a consequence, the hundreds of bruises resulted in every girls legs without fail being black and blue but, no pain no gain! The girls all individually accomplished something which the feared, whether it be heights or small spaces, or even the worlds population of wasps.  One of the English leaders, Shan, was pushed to her limits,as she climbed to the top of the zip wire.  All the girls were supportive, and encouraging throughout the day, and it felt we had known the bucks bubbles to much longer than a day.

Monday night came and with the girls now all showered and clean it was time for dinner, we had pasta and Bolognese which was very good and filled us up after a long day of activities . Now it was time to party with the neon gear on it was time for the disco to start, loads of dancing, singing and over all a lot of fun! Sadly when half 10came it was time to get changed and ready for bed, its safe to say we all went out like a light after a full day of pushing our self's to the limit on activity's and all the dancing done at the neon disco , all in all Monday was brilliant!!!

Tuesday was the day the dreaded/exciting exam results came out. Gillian, Jessica, Ellie, Tina, Amy and Eilidh waited nervously at different times of the day to get them. All in all, great results came through. Everyone should be so proud of them!! During the day we all got the train at Helen's Bay to Belfast center where everyone was put into groups to play human monopoly. Each group was given a sheet of paper with pictures and names of certain buildings or monuments in Belfast. Each group then had to find their way around, once found, they had to ring up and see if they could buy it with monopoly money or just get a chance. Was so much fun. A cheeky wee lunch at Frankie and Benny's for some girls too! When getting back to our home for the week of 'County Fermanagh' everyone was hungry for their tea. Then followed by a nice relaxing night in the camp grounds. Making loads of new friends, the girls were excited for the rest of the activities to follow during the week.

Wednesday was a great day! Tina, Gillian, Fiona and Katriona went off to go sailing, they had a good time learning all about the boat and got to sail the boat themselves using the wind as a guide. The difficulty started when the wind calmed and the sailed eventually had to be put down, from then they each got a shot to drive using the motor while the rest had a well needed nap. The other of the haggis hunters went canoeing and kayaking! They played a variety of games which resulted in a lot of wet guides! Rosanna took a trip into the lake whilst she was running across the kayaks and slipped. In the afternoon the girls enjoyed 'It's a Knock out'  which consisted of different team games. Eilidh and Fiona raced to victory with the best time for the timed obstacle course. The day ended with a pyjama disco, which all the girls loved!
